新 I noticed if parents are standing in a tree with an axe, they might be thinking about ditching the old kids and getting NEW ones.... LOL

So some of the components like the top of 色 you say is "knife" and other items like the right side of 船 you say are "eight" and "mouth". So some parts are "standard" (e.g. eight and mouth) where as some are -- I assume -- made up on the spot ク = knife. When studying 2000+ kanji how does someone remember when to use a one-off component and when does someone need to say "what's the (actual/consistent) name/meaning of that part? What about kanji like 負, is the top of that knife, too? As for 船 the left part 舟 is it really necessary to have the complicated explanation that you made as opposed to just remembering it as "ship" or "boat" as it is its own kanji that means that and is used in lots of boat-related kanji so is repeated over and over in the kanji panthology. By the way, do you use Kanji SVG for the stroke diagrams?

I worked from the PDF documents mostly, the stroke order is gold, and I easily passed the JLPT kanji section after remembering most mnemonics. Thanks Light! So happy book 2 is coming soon!!
